 About the Artist 

Hi, I'm Ruth and I'm an abstract painter inspired by the natural beauty of Raglan New Zealand. 

I have an honours degree in Painting and have taken a break from teaching Art and Art History to focus on - painting!

 

My work explores the tension and harmony between the organic and the constructed - fluid acrylic gestures and the disciplined precision of wrapped thread.

By placing these elements side by side, I’m interested in how softness meets rigidity, how emotion meets logic, and how the handmade can hold both chaos and control. The work becomes a conversation between two modes of making - one intuitive, one deliberate - reflecting the dualities that shape both the natural world and our inner lives.

 

I'm also into repurposing pre-loved textiles and collect vintage buttons.
